The response from you guys about my look this past TRENDSday was incredible, and I am so grateful to everyone who tuned in and showed some level of encouragement. This segment was a lot of fun to put together and the support of the insta-thrift community – some whom I really admire – made it that much sweeter.
For those of you who might have missed it, I created a blog post highlighting a single spring trend, specifically leather, and I styled up a look around a piece that I “thrifted” from my own closet. I shared a little insight into my look on my Instagram stories, which you can now view in my story highlights if you’d like.
The funny thing is that even though leather was intended to be the focus, there was one other thing that a few of you messaged me about and that was how I styled my top the way I did. I took an oversized men’s button up that was large enough to wrap around my waist and fastened it in place with a brooch.
So simple, but it made a great impression and that’s why I filmed a quick and easy tutorial (with 3 simple steps) for anyone who might want to give it a try.
If you do, please take a photo of your look and tag me on instagram (@stylejelly) so I can see all the ways you guys are styling it.
Step 1: Choose your button-up and pin of choice. Remember that the button-up will need to be oversized enough so that there is some overlap.
Step 2: Cross one side over the other after you’ve decided which side looks and feels the best for you.
Step 3: Position the pin on your side near the top of your hip-bone – this will look different on everyone so do what feels right for you. Lift the fabric so that you have control of the front and back of the pin, fasten it securely and voila!
Thanks again for tuning in. Take care and be safe!
